The crowd in Washington, D.C., was left breathless as Lady Gaga rang in a new era of democracy with a stunning and powerful rendition of the National Anthem at President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN INAUGURATION SCHEDULE: WHEN IS THE SPEECH, PARADE AND INAUGURAL BALL?
Gaga took the stage Wednesday, January 20, before the swearing in of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — the first woman to hold the position — in a stunning Schiaparelli Haute Couture look designed by Daniel Roseberry.
The “Rain on Me” singer looked incredible in the cashmere fitted coat and red silk skirt as she captured the hearts of millions by belting out the patriotic tune on a day that, for so many, provided a beacon for hope. She donned a gilded dove of peace brooch.
“My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly,” Gaga tweeted earlier in the day. “I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land.”
In another tweet, she added that “singing our National Anthem for the American People is my honor. I will sing during a ceremony, a transition, a moment of change—between POTUS 45 and 46. For me, this has great meaning.”

On Tuesday, Gaga visited the Capitol, where she reflected on the violent riots that rocked D.C. on January 6. “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans. A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol,” she captioned a photo of herself praying.
Gaga stumped for Biden on the campaign trail during his bid to be elected president. The superstar gave a speech and performed her hit songs “Shallow” and “You and I” in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Following the swearing-in of Harris as VP, Jennifer Lopez performed “This Land Is Your Land,” to which she added a line from her 1999 hit single “Let’s Get Loud.”
A virtual parade is scheduled for today. An inauguration event featuring Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake and more will take place this evening.
