Kelly Clarkson Brought To Tears On 'The Voice' Following Emotional Performance Of Her Song 'Already Gone': Watch
She’s back! The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson has returned, and after an emotional reaction to a performance on the Monday, April 19, episode, she definitely doesn’t regret it.
The 38-year-old was out sick for a few weeks and had gal pal Kelsea Ballerini step in for her during Battle Rounds of the popular competition show.
When Clarkson returned, she was met with Corey Ward’s beautiful rendition of her single "Already Gone" from Clarkson's 2009 album All I Ever Wanted. His performance brought her to tears.
"When I wrote 'Already Gone,' I was going through something that I thought, 'It's OK. It doesn't always have to work out,'" the coach recalled. "Hearing him sing that to me, in my life now, it's like, are you smacking me in the face with my own message?"
Last year, the TV talker filed for divorce from hubby Brandon Blackstock — the two share daughter River Rose, 6, and son Remington, 4 — and Clarkson has previously said that going through the split has been anything but easy.
"It's interesting when you write something, and you don't feel it 'til years later," Clarkson said regarding Ward’s performance.
Special guest Snoop Dogg praised Ward on his delivery of Clarkson’s song, saying, "When you can get the songwriter to lose emotional control, that's when you doin' your job."
He continued, “He just put a chill on my arm. Look here, Kelly. I don’t get chills from men, man. Man, what was that all about!”
Visibly in shock over Ward’s performance, Clarkson said, “I literally was like, well, he just killed my song in front of me. I was like, I feel like that’s maybe how that was supposed to sound.”
The "Because Of You" singer had a hard choice to make, as she was also a fan of contestant Ryleigh Modig's rendition of King of Leon’s "Use Somebody." She exclaimed, "I'm dying, I wish we had a save!"
Clarkson went on to rave about the contestant after the show on Twitter feeling confident in her final decision (we won't spoil it for you, in case you didn't watch!).
“I honestly have no words @_coreyward_!” she tweeted. “Your version of Already Gone was pure magic!”
Relive last night’s performance here, and catch The Voice Monday nights at 8 p.m. on NBC.
