In Lucy to Andy Griffith: TV's Favorite Sitcoms, the biggest names in comedy celebrate the genius behind four TV series that defined the American sitcom. The REELZ special sits down with experts and celebrities who reveal little known moments behind the making of I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, The Honeymooners and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
An exclusive interview with Andy Griffith — before his death in 2012 — recalls the day he got a call from his friend, comedian Don Knotts, who pitched himself as the bumbling deputy, Barney Fife, in Griffith’s new show. The result was television history. “Don brought all these emotions that Barney felt,“ Griffith says. “He brought them into himself and then I could see it in his eyes.”
The documentary includes rare scenes from The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy, and is highlighted by interviews with fellow sitcom-greats including Mary Tyler Moore, Florence Henderson, Barbara Eden, Jim Neighbors and Dick Van Dyke.
