Aerosmith changed the game of rock 'n' roll, with frontman Steven Tyler leading his band to unlimited heights of success.
And while living the life of a rock star came with unimaginable highs, the good times were quickly followed by the bad. Despite Aerosmith selling more than 150 million albums worldwide — making them the best-selling hard rock band in U.S. history — Tyler's drug and alcohol addiction not only plagued the band, but almost cost him his life.
In the new REELZ documentary, Steven Tyler: Aerosmith Frontman, the near demise of Tyler's career and journey to success all over again is looked at through a new lens, showing how the musician came back even bigger and better than ever before.
"I fired Steven Tyler," Aerosmith's Manager Steve Leber recalls at the beginning of the clip.
"Uncontrollably hooked on drugs, Steven's career and life seemed over," the narrator says as photos and videos of Tyler and his rock band — who were sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band" — flash. "Yet somehow, he bounced back."
“For twenty-five years I lived on the other side of the moon,” Tyler says of his drug-use, “It took the band away, it took away everything that I loved, and I got it back.”
The new episode follows the story of the former American Idol judge with self-confessed "lead singer’s disease" and is told by the people who know Tyler the best.
Tyler was inducted in 2013 into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. The iconic group that incorporated elements of pop rock and heavy metal mixed with rhythm and blues in their tunes went on to receive numerous accolades, including several Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and so much more.
