NEWS'The Conners' Off-Camera Tragedy: Crew Member Dies On Set From 'Fatal Medical Event'
A beloved crew member of the hit ABC comedy series The Conners has sadly died on set in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 18. The man, whose identity was not revealed, also worked on the now-controversial sitcom Roseanne.
A rep for production company Werner Entertainment confirmed the news in a statement. “With heavy hearts we regret to confirm that a member of our technical crew suffered a fatal medical event today,” a spokesperson for the production company confirmed to The Wrap.
“He was a much loved member of The Conners and Roseanne families for over 25 years. As we remember our beloved colleague, we ask that you respect the privacy of his family and loved ones as they begin their grieving process.”
The cause of his death is still unknown. According to TMZ, the crew member, who reportedly worked primarily in lighting and was between the ages of 50-60, was up on the catwalk at CBS Studio Center's Stage 22 in Los Angeles when the “medical event” happened. The outlet reported studio medics were called to the scene but were unable to revive the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Actor Michael Fishman — who plays Roseanne Conner’s youngest child, D.J. — had just tweeted his excitement about wrapping up the latest season. “Final week of filming on @theconnersabc,” he wrote. “When you have scenes you love so much you can't even sleep you're so excited to go to work!”
The Conners debuted in 2018 as a spinoff to Roseanne, which was cancelled earlier that year following racists tweets from star Roseanne Barr. "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said at the time.
The reworked new series stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Fishman, Emma Kenney and others. The sitcom is currently airing its third season on ABC.
