Whoopi Goldberg Snaps At Cohost Meghan McCain After Ultimate Power Struggle On 'The View,' Both Issue On-Air Apologies

Whoopi Goldberg lost her cool on the Thursday, June 17, episode of The View when she and cohost Meghan McCain got into it while discussing former president Donald Trump and current president Joe Biden.

One of the Hot Topics of the day was Biden's confrontation with the media following his first face-to-face meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin at a historic summit in Geneva. Biden admitted he acted like a "wise guy" after harshly responding to a reporter and later apologized.

At the time of the chaotic encounter — as the media shouted over each other — CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins asked Biden what made him so "confident" that Putin will change his behavior.

“I am not confident he will change his behavior. Where the hell … what do you do all the time? When did I say I was confident? … What I said was... Let’s get it straight, I said what will change their behavior is if the rest of the world reacts to them and it diminishes their standing in the world," Biden angrily responded. "I am not confident of anything. I am just stating the facts.”

Collins pushed back on Biden's response, reiterating that Putin hasn't changed in the past and his current actions don't show any signs of improvement either. "So how does that account to a constructive meeting, as President Putin put it?" she asked, which led Biden to respond: “If you don’t understand that, you are in the wrong business,” per Poyntor.

While discussing the altercation and Biden's subsequent apology, Sara Haines praised the reporter on her ability to challenge the president. She called Collins' efforts "journalism at its best." McCain also applauded the CNN reporter, noting that her ability to stand up against a world leader was a "career-defining moment for her."

However, things took a turn after Joy Behar emphasized that Trump never apologized to a reporter for being unkind.

McCain insisted that the former president's behavior does not lessen Biden's when he should also be faulted. "Just because Trump was so bad, it doesn't absolve Biden's bad behavior. What he just did was 100% Trumpy. And I think I would just like some intellectual consistency," she told her cohosts.

McCain insisted that everybody would be up in arms if Trump reacted to a reporter the same way Biden had just done. Biden spouted "off at [Kaitlin] in a way that I found unbecoming and ridiculous, but to do it in a foreign country," McCain scoffed. The mother-of-one continued to throw shade at Biden, pointing out that he continued to complain about negative press even after he apologized.

Goldberg chimed in with her opinion, noting: "The thing that I never saw Trump do is apologize to anybody." She then acknowledged that people sometimes snap and are rude to others accidentally.

McCain angrily responded: "Well, I don't care that you don't care," to which Goldberg replied: "Well then good, Meghan. You can be how you always are."

"You be how you always are," McCain clapped back. Both cohosts seemed to allude that neither one is willing to ever take another standpoint into consideration. Watch the segment below.
