Miley Cyrus Slays Rousing Rendition Of 'My Heart Beats For Love' In New Peacock Concert Series Honoring Pride Month — Watch
Pop icon Miley Cyrus is proving she’s an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and celebrating her pride in a new concert special for Peacock.
Titled Miley Cyrus Presents Stand by You, the Pride Month soirée will honor the queer community and feature performances from Cyrus and special guests Orville Peck, Maren Morris, country groups Little Big Town and Brothers Osborne — whose founding member T.J. Osborne recently came out as a gay, making him the only openly gay artist signed to a major country label.
“My vision for the STAND BY YOU concert special was to really reflect the LGBTQ community on the stage,” Cyrus gushed to GLAAD’s head of talent, Anthony Allen Ramos. “It was my honor, it was my privilege to stand there and to represent an entire community, and I wanted to make sure I served it justice, which is what we demand!”
The hour-long glitter-filled event, filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, is set to feature tracks like Cyrus’ smash hits “The Climb” and “Party in the USA,” along with her putting a spin on classics such as Cher’s “Believe” and Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors.”
“Tonight will be all about celebration,” the 28-year-old blonde beauty said in the performance trailer. “Everybody is welcome here.”
Cyrus, like a slew of her pop counterparts, including Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, has been a fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, even as a young child. In an interview with TIME magazine in 2015, the pop star stated she doesn’t care for the labels boy or girl and identifies as gender fluid, even though that's not perfect either. "I'm just equal," she said at the time. "I'm just even. It has nothing to do with any parts of me or how I dress or how I look. It's literally just how I feel."
The “Wrecking Ball” crooner has been sexually fluid and androgynous for years, she spilled to the outlet, and was the person in Nashville growing up that other sexually curious teenage girls would go to: "They all wanted to experiment. I was always the one."
Miley Cyrus Presents Stand by You will premiere on Peacock on Friday, June 25.
