ENTERTAINMENT'We Gotta Keep Things Spicy': Jerry Trainor Reveals If Freddie & Carly's Romance Will Be Featured In New 'iCarly' Reboot
After the announcement that Nickelodeon’s hit show iCarly was getting a reboot for adult audiences, original stars Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor are spilling secrets about the upcoming Paramount+ revival.
Trainor dished that the upcoming 13-episode season features "a lot of secrets" that will certainly shock fans. "I'll say the scripts are really funny, but I don't think anyone is expecting what we're doing," he said in an interview with ET. "I don't think a revival has been done quite this way."
During the interview, the trio were asked whether a romance between Freddie (Kress) and Carly (Cosgrove) will be featured, after the pair kissed in the series finale. "I have no idea, and even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you," Kress joked. "We gotta keep things spicy for the folks at home. Right, Miranda?"
Cosgrove replied, "Yeah, let's keep things spicy."
Trainor added: "Too juicy to say."
As OK! previously reported, Cosgrove, who played Carly; Trainor, who was Carly’s older brother, Spencer; and Kress, who played cameraman Freddie, are all set to return. Notably absent is Carly’s best friend Sam Puckett, played by Jennette McCurdy, as OK! learned she would not be joining the new series.

McCurdy recently explained why she’s done with acting and essentially slammed her previous body of work. "I resent my career in a lot of ways," she said on the Season 2 premiere of her podcast "Empty Inside" on February 24. "I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most just cheesy, embarrassing… I imagine there’s a very different experience to be had with acting if you’re proud of your roles."
It is unclear how the show will handle her absence.
iCarly ran on Nickelodeon for six seasons from 2007-2012 and followed Carly Shay as her internet show, iCarly, became a huge success. Fans of the highly anticipated reboot can expect some major changes as the show is geared more towards an adult audience and will follow the characters in their present-day lives.
The three revealed details about how their characters' lives have changed since we last saw them. "I have a kid [on the show] now, so that changes the dynamic a little bit," Kress told ET. The actor, whose wife, London Elise Kress, is pregnant and due in a few weeks, added, "Yeah in two weeks I'll have two kids. So just kids everywhere."
"I have no kids," Trainor declared, with Cosgrove adding, "Me either."
